3/5 - 3/20 is "Jingzhe" (Awakening of Insects), a day symbolizing the revival of all things. The remarkable twenty-four solar terms!

The Significance of Jingzhe and Early - Rising

1. The alarm sign symbolizes the revival of all things. The human body's yang qi is born at 5 o'clock in the morning with the solar terms. Early - up activities can awaken energy and improve the energy of the whole day.

2. Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes conforming to the natural rhythm, getting up at 5 - 6 o'clock to promote the rise of yang qi and avoid drowsiness, which is in line with the health wisdom of "spring initiative".

3. The spring equinox is the golden period of conditioning. The scientific routine combined with the traditional solar term concept can refresh the physical and mental state more than tonic.

Traditional Chinese Medicine's Perspective on Jingzhe

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that on the day of Jingzhe, "thunder awakens the hibernating creatures, and all things come back to life." Animals begin to stir, plants start to sprout, and the human body is also at a critical moment of yang energy rising and the clear and turbid forces clashing. Nurturing the body well during the dozen or so days from Jingzhe to the Spring Equinox is more effective than taking any tonic!

The Meaning of Jingzhe

Jingzhe, "all hibernating creatures are startled, and plants grow freely." The term "zhe" refers to animals that hibernate in winter, and Jingzhe means that these hibernating animals are awakened during this solar term, including bears, snakes, frogs, insects, etc.

So what is it that lies dormant within the human body? It is the yang energy that has been hibernating overnight, meaning that at 5 am during Jingzhe, the yang energy in the human body needs to rise, just like completing the sowing of seeds in spring.

How to make it rise? There is only one way, which is "spring governs awakening and activity." By 5 am, you must be awake, and after waking up, you must get up and move around. Once you move, the yang energy in the body will rise. You might feel very sleepy one minute, lying in bed struggling with the decision to get up or not, but a minute later, when you actually get dressed and start moving, you suddenly don't feel sleepy anymore. Why? Because the yang energy has risen.

Traditional Chinese Medicine masters suggest that after Jingzhe, one must get up at 5 am, and no later than 6 am. After getting up, engage in some activities; reading and writing will make your mind clear.

What if you are extremely sleepy? You can get up at 5 am, move around for 10 to 30 minutes, and then go back to sleep for a while. By then, the yang energy has already risen, and going back to sleep won't suppress it.

This way, when you get up again, you will feel relaxed and happy, full of energy for work and study. Otherwise, you will feel tired during the day, yawning and dozing off, lacking energy for anything.
